Rainbows. Rainbows everywhere.

Same-sex marriage has now been legalized in the U.S.! Of course, Ireland too, but that's less funny because they don't have Canada next to them. That means that when it was legalized there, they couldn't tweet that they were moving to Canada, like some people in the U.S. did. What they don't know is that in Canada, gay marriage is already legalized. Oh well.

To conclude, yay!

Two news updates

Firstly, Pierre Karl Péladeau is the new leader of the Parti québécois.

Here's a quote: "As the new leader of the , I would like to say to all our friends of North America, in the full respect of democracy and the rule of law, we want to have our own country, and we want to live happy and peacefully. Our project is not against Canadians or anybody. It's for the people of Quebec." -Twitter

Well, he's made his stance pretty clear:
  • He does not know how to use the word "friends" properly. (bad)
  • He respects democracy and law. (good)
  • He wants to have his own country. (expected)
  • He wants to live happily and peacefully. (sort of obvious)
  • He is not against Canadians "or anybody". (although he wants to separate himself from them)
  • Their project (separation) for the people of Quebec. (that is, those who vote for him)
By the way, PKP is a pretty good nickname.
Secondly, Canada won the semi-finals against Czech Republic (2-0) in the Ice Hockey World Championship! The finals will be against Russia.

That's all, folks!

A summary of the Montreal Canadiens

Well, the title says it all, I guess.

It is hockey season, and I am a Montrealer. For the record, I am not one of those eccentric fans who march in the streets wearing jerseys and painting their faces blue, white, and red. However, I do support my town's team. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you a summary of the Montreal Canadiens.

The Canadiens (Les Canadiens, Le Bleu-Blanc-Rouge, Les CH), also known has the Habs (Les Habitants), are a hockey team that is part of the Atlantic division in the Eastern Conference of the NHL (National Hockey League). It was founded in 1909, making it even older than the NHL, founded in 1917. They've won 24 Stanley Cups in total, the last one being in 1993 (fingers crossed for this year!).

Th Canadiens have had many amazing players, most notably "The Rocket", also known as Maurice Richard. He was the first player to score 50 goals in a season and the first to score 500 goals in total (he actually scored 544). He was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame inducted him in 1961, and when he retired in 1960, his sweater number (9) retired with him. It is said that the revolt caused by the anger of his being suspended was a precursor of the Quiet Revolution. He was also the first non-politician to be given a state funeral. I don't think that it's the fact that he was a good hockey player that makes him a legend, I think that it's what he represents for Montreal.

Moving on, some random facts:
The motto of the Canadiens is one of the lines of Flanders Fields (written the same year as the Habs won their first Stanley Cup) translated into French: Nos bras meurtris vous tendent le flambeau, à vous toujours de le porter bien haut. (To you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high.)
Their mascot is named Youppi! and used to be a mascot for a baseball team.
I don't know any other random facts about them.

And finally, for those who don't watch hockey, you might ask what fun there is in it. After all, it's basically cheering when the puck moves to the opposing side and watching people bash each other senseless. However, cheering when the puck moves to the opposing side and watching people bash each other senseless is incredibly fun.

Well, that was only slightly disorganized. Today, Tampa Bay played against the Canadiens, ending in a tie (1-1). Have a nice day, and go Habs go!

Hi. I'm Rose-Marie and I was very stupidly invited to contribute to this blog, interestingly entitled What's Wrong With This World? Well, there is a lot of things wrong with this world. And when it comes to politics, the majority of politicians are old white men. Now, you might be wondering, what does this teenage girl know about politics? Absolutely nothing. Which shows that I  have a lot more in common with most politicians than you think.

Had I known, growing up, that the society I live in was so oppressed for so many people, I probably would've been nicer to certain people as a child. Although, as I got older, I did start to notice certain tendencies. For example, I may or may not have flipped a guy out of a chair once. Needless to say, I got in trouble for that. This guy once flipped another guy out of the chair, the teacher told him to stop that, because it was dangerous. When I complained to the teacher about it, I was treated with the line, Boy will be boys. I am 100% certain that boys will be boys. But being boys doesn't mean doing stupidities and getting off the hook for it. It means being a boy. Physically. There shouldn't be a different treatment because of your gender, right? Imagine if the world said things the way they are actually intended.  Hello, you have a male reproductive system! No murder accusations for you! I'd hate to be that person, but this isn't Oprah, people don't just get cars and get out of jail free cards.

I wish somebody had explained this heterosexual patriarchy that we live in at a younger age. I started to understand it more when I got older and the guys at my school would look at something and say Woah dude that's so gay.

I took this test once to evaluate my English reading level. The test score gave me that of a Secondary 5 student. Do you want to know why? Because I don't use gay to designate ridiculous. There have been many times that I've offered to buy people a thesaurus for Christmas, to expand their vocabulary. All these words in the English language, and you choose gay?

I've met my fair share of homophobic misogynistic men. Although they aren't very good at their jobs, because every time I ask them why they're homophobic, misogynistic men, they give me weak answers, for example, the bible says it's a sin. Maybe, but you know what else is considered an even bigger sin? Divorce. Go tell that to your ex-wife.

As for a reason as to why women are not their equals, they tell me that women are useless in society. Is that so? I don't seem to recall your father giving birth to you, though.

But women aren't just here to have your children. We're so useless? Don't marry us. Have your own children.  We're out.

I am actually scared that I will be dead before straight white boys don't automatically think they're entitled to everything. I'm afraid men in general will forever think they are entitled to everything.

There. A rant on white boys.

That accent, though

Hello!

Sorry I haven't written in a while. I have an enormous amount of good excuses for this, the most important one being that I forgot. I will try to write more in the future, but in the meantime, here's a clip from three years ago to brighten your day:
Stephen Harper antics

To infinity and beyond!
Bye.

Some excellent advice

It's the most wonderful time of the year!
Just kidding. The most wonderful time of the year is Christmas. Don't argue.

Anyways, Valentine's day is coming up soon. That means chocolate, and lots of it! Of course, you should wait until the day after to buy it, because it'll be on sale.
And just because you're single, don't spew out your hate on the 14th. You'll always have chocolate to comfort you.
If you don't like chocolate, I can't help you. Sorry.

May Eros (because Cupid is too mainstream) be with you!
Bye.

Yemen

Hi there!

Since I posted something yesterday (and because I'm lazy), here's just a bunch of links for the crisis in Yemen.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-30964784
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/24/world/middleeast/yemen-president-unrest.html?_r=0
http://www.wsj.com/articles/yemens-shiite-rebels-call-mass-rallies-1422016577
http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/yemen-s-president-quits-throwing-nation-deeper-into-chaos-1.2928077

So basically, on Thursday, Yemen's president resigned.
Of course, there are complications, involving a few other resignations, protests, Houthi rebels, guns, politics, and all that good stuff. The future looks bright.

Sorry that this was a little short; I'm quite busy at the moment. Ciao.

Happy (late) new year!

Hi there!

I'm sorry that this blog hasn't been updated in awhile. I have some really bad excuses, but I won't say them, because, well, they're just that bad. I'll try to get some more posts out.

Back to business, or whatever this is.

The latest big news out there is that King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz passed away at 1 a.m. this morning. His brother Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is the new king of Saudi Arabia and all of the oil inside it.

Tuesday, Jan. 20, ISIS posted a video of a man clothed in black holding a knife with two Japanese hostages: Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa. They gave Japan 72 hours (three days) to pay a $200 million dollar ransom. Well, today's Friday.

Speaking of terrorists, 2015 has nicely (note the sarcasm) started off with three days of attacks in Île-de-France, France. It started with the Charlie Hebdo shooting on Jan. 7 when two gunmen, Cherif and Saïd Kouachi, stormed the Charlie Hebdo (a satirical magazine) offices and killed 12 people. The following morning, policewoman Clarissa Jean-Philippe was shot and killed. The Kouachi brothers were eventually killed after a manhunt, a car chase, a shootout, and an eight-hour siege.
At the time of the siege, after a (different) shootout, Amedy Coulibaly took 19 people hostage at a kosher supermarket, threatening to kill them if the Kouachis were not freed. Around the time that the brothers were killed, the police stormed the supermarket, killed Coulibaly, and freed 15 hostages. They found four dead. The gunman's girlfriend, Hayat Boumediene, is still wanted by the police for her connection with Jean-Philippe's death, but is thought to now be in Syria.

Ugh, humanity depresses me. What happened to freedom of speech and peace and happiness? I'm done. Bye.
